Knowledge Mobilization

I have focused much of my recent work on public-facing knowledge mobilization projects to make academic research accessible to diverse audiences.

This work has involved the launch of two educational websites, as well as creative methods including podcasting and the production of other digital, multimedia resources. I have also written online editorials that applied insights from my research to explain and contextualize complex societal issues.

The COVID Sports Project

The COVID Sports Project is a multimedia website comprised of educational resources exploring how the sociological connections between sports and the COVID-19 pandemic. The website has three main components: an interactive timeline highlighting major pandemic events in the world of sports; a 9-episode podcast series (featuring original music I composed and recorded); and a multimedia resource library.

I conducted the research for this project alongside Dr. Mary McDonald (Georgia Tech) while designing all website components and producing the podcast series.

Podcast episodes include: Historical Parallels, Early Inequalities (listen below), Sports Bubbles, Athlete Activism, Media Trends, Ghost Games, COVID Olympics, Media and Vaccines, and Long COVID.

Sound, Sport, and the Digital

I co-founded the Sound, Sport, and the Digital Working Group, a collective of scholars and artists interested in the interconnections between sport, sound, and music—with a special focus on how such connections can be explored through digital modes of sound recording, editing, re-mixing, and sharing.

I created the Sound, Sport, and the Digital website and recorded this audio “trailer” for the project:

One of the main goals of the working group is to mobilize knowledge about the sport/sound connection through a webinar series. Our website hosts full recordings of these online events.

The website also includes an extensive resource library of relevant academic writing, news articles, documentaries, and how-to guides. I also curated some playlists of sports songs for your listening pleasure.
